Our McDonald's Relationship
People often ask us, “What’s your relationship with McDonald’s?”
Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) Toronto opened its doors to families in 1981 with the encouragement and support of McDonald’s Restaurants of Canada Limited. Since then, 14 other Houses have opened across the country. Each location operates as an independent charity.
We are tremendously grateful for the support of the McDonald’s Family – Ronald McDonald House Charities Canada, McDonald’s Restaurants of Canada Limited and its founder, George Cohon, McDonald’s Owner/Operators and their supplier network. They continue to provide vital foundational support to RMHC Toronto through the following activities:
- 10¢ from the sale of every Happy Meal,
- McHappy Day, an annual day of giving to support local children’s charities, including Ronald McDonald Houses, and
- in-restaurant coin box donations from customers.
Members of the McDonald’s Family also serve as volunteers on our Board of Directors and committees and participate in many local events for RMHC Toronto, including our annual Charity Golf Classic.
In 2014-2015, donations through the McDonald’s Family accounted for about 40 per cent of our overall fundraising revenues. The McDonald’s Family is the largest corporate partner of RMHC Toronto and we are deeply thankful for their continued partnership.
