We have always known we have amazing and talented volunteers in our Family Rooms, but we did not know they were world class – until Michelle Williams.

On Saturday, August 6, the dedicated volunteer at our Family Rooms at Rouge Valley Centenary won a bronze medal for Canada in the women’s 4x100 metre freestyle swimming relay at the Olympics in Rio.

Michelle has been volunteering at the Family Rooms since they first officially opened in December 2015.

Maggie Hodgins, Family Room Coordinator at our Rouge Valley Centenary site, says that while Michelle mentioned in her initial volunteer interview that she was a competitive swimmer, it wasn’t until later that she realized just how accomplished Michelle was.

“Michelle is very humble and very sweet natured,” says Maggie.

She’s also a great asset as a volunteer.

“She’s very warm and caring and approachable with the families.

“We’re looking forward to having her back in the fall.”

Please join us in congratulating Michelle and her team on their impressive accomplishment!
