FAQsWhat grade levels are taught at RMHC Toronto School?
RMHC Toronto School is open to patients and their siblings staying at the House between Junior Kindergarten and Grade 12.
How does a typical school day run?
Since there are a variety of grade levels enrolled in the School at any one time, the school day is divided into sessions by age group to best meet the needs of the students. Here is the daily schedule:
Junior Kindergarten to Grade 3: 8:40 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Grades 4 to 12: 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Lunch: 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.
What curriculum is taught?
RMHC Toronto School educates students who come to us from across Canada and around the world. Although it is not possible to cover all of the provincial and national standards for each student, every effort is made to cover the core curriculum expectations so students can reintegrate smoothly when they return home.
For students in Junior Kindergarten to Grade 8, lessons are based on the Ontario Curriculum and inspired by the interests of the School’s students. All subjects are taught, excluding French.
Students in Grades 9 to 12 work on completing Ontario high school credits. Long-term students access credits through the Independent Learning Centre of Ontario. Short-term students complete work sent from their hometown schools.
Is there a fee to attend the School?
The School is supported by donations to RMHC Toronto, so there is no cost to attend.
How are students assessed?
Depending on their length of stay, students will receive either a progress report or an Ontario report card.
Will the teachers at RMHC Toronto School get in touch with my child’s teacher?
Once a child enrols, teachers at RMHC Toronto School will connect with the teacher at their hometown school to assess the student’s progress and learning needs. Upon returning home, a progress report or Ontario report card (depending on their length of stay) will be sent to the student’s school. This report will indicate what the student studied at RMHC Toronto School and provide assessment marks.
Since RMHC Toronto School is recognized as a private school by the Ministry of Education, these reports can be filed in the student's Ontario Student Record (OSR).
