Families at our House never have to buy dairy products, thanks to Saputo.
Saputo is a company that believes in the importance of family. Today, Saputo is the largest cheese manufacturer and leading fluid milk and cream processor in Canada. The Saputo family built their business in the 1950s through hard work and collaboration, and that spirit still exists today, driving the company to help keep other families close at Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) Toronto.
“Family-centric values are core to our company, and they align perfectly with RMHC Toronto’s mission,” says Jim Fennell, Vice President, National Food service. “It’s important for both Saputo and our employees to give back to our communities.”
Saputo is a dedicated donor to Ronald McDonald Houses across Canada, which includes generous annual support for families staying at RMHC Toronto. The company donated $750,000 to help fund the construction of our new House in 2011, and a floor was named in their honour. In 2015, Saputo pledged a donation of $35,000 each year for five years, providing us with a reliable source of funding to address our areas of greatest need.
For families staying at our House, Saputo’s impact is felt in a very real and delicious way every day. Saputo donates cheese and milk to our House each week, providing huge cost savings to families who don’t have to buy these important food staples.
“I’ve been to RMHC Toronto many times and one of the features that stands out for me is the kitchen,” says Jim. “Giving families the space and the resources to prepare home-style meals can really help them feel closer to their own home.”
Saputo employees have also been to the House to cook dinner for families through our Home for Dinner program. Jim and his colleagues feel strong personal connections to our cause. Dominic Bombino, Senior Vice-President, Strategic Business Development, sits on the RMHC Toronto Board of Directors and Saputo management encourages their employees across Canada to support RMHC through McHappy Day, golf tournaments and regional events.
“We are proud to support an organization that makes life better for families during such difficult times,” says Jim. “Having a sick child heavily impacts your life and we want to help keep families’ lives as normal as possible.”
