Meals for Families

Thank you for your interest in supporting families at Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) Toronto through our Meals for Families programs.

Meals-on-the-Go
Our Meals-on-the-Go program provides families with simple meals they can take with them to the hospital. Groups of 7 to 10 volunteers use our kitchen facilities to assemble and package approximately 100 sandwiches and healthy snacks on Mondays and Thursdays between 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Your group is responsible for the cost of the groceries, which is usually about $500.

Home for Dinner
Our Home for Dinner program is a great way for you to ease the financial stress and  the burden of food preparation facing families when they return from the hospital in the evening.

The Home for Dinner program runs four nights per week (generally Sundays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays) and typically requires 15 to 20 volunteers as groups serve approximately 150 people.

Your group is responsible for the cost of groceries as well as the preparation, serving and clean up after the meal. The cost of the groceries is usually about $1,200, with a small additional charge from the delivery service (we use Grocery Gateway). We encourage your group to sit down and share the meal with our families once they have been served.

Once a date is booked with you, we are happy to provide menu ideas and grocery lists.

Please note that due to the wonderfully high volume of recent applications, we do not expect to be able to accommodate any inquiries from additional volunteer groups for Home for Dinner dates until Spring 2019.

If you are already on our waitlist, we will contact you before December 31, 2018 to review the available options and/or your place on our waitlist.

If you are interested in packing Meals-on-the-Go or you wish to be added to the waiting list for hosting a Home for Dinner later in 2019, we invite you to email hfd@rmhctoronto.ca

In the meantime, we encourage you to consider some other opportunities to volunteer as a group.

Gather Wish List Items
Our website lists the items most in need at this time. Gathering Wish List items can be a great way for groups to come together for a common purpose.
