FAQsWhat are the hours of operation?
Our Family Rooms at Credit Valley Hospital, Health Sciences North, Markham Stouffville Hospital and Rouge Valley Centenary are open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., seven days a week. Our Family Room at SickKids is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
What amenities do the Family Rooms have?
All of our Family Rooms have relaxing lounge spaces, TVs, and a kitchenette stocked with complimentary snacks and beverages. Some have private sleep rooms, and private washrooms with showers. Please check the web page for the Family Room you hope to visit to determine exactly what it offers.
How am I able to use or stay at one of the Family Rooms?
Our Family Rooms are open to specific units within our partnering hospitals. Please inquire within your unit at the hospital, or check the web page for the Family Room you hope to visit to determine your eligibility.
Am I able to reserve a place to sleep in the Family Room?
We do not have a reservation system for our sleep rooms and sleep pods. Our sleep rooms are assigned by hospital staff within each of our partnering hospitals. If you are interested in using one of our sleep rooms, please inquire on your unit or in the Family Room with our staff and volunteers. The sleep pods at SickKids, Health Sciences North, Rouge Valley Centenary and Credit Valley Hospital operate on a first come first serve basis. Please inquire in the Family Room about using a sleep pod.
Am I able to store my belongings in the Family Rooms?
Unfortunately, due to space restrictions, we are unable to store any personal belongings in our Family Rooms. You are able to store food on a daily basis in our refrigerators.
Am I able to bring my other children with me to the Family Room? And am I able to leave my child in the Family Room unattended?
Siblings, extended family members and visitors under the age of 18 years old are welcome in our Family Rooms. However, they must be accompanied by an adult (someone who is 18 years or older) at all times. We do not provide child care services in our Family Rooms.
Can my family and friends visit the Family Room?
Yes, family and friends are more than welcome to visit the Family Room. We do ask that they initially come in with the primary caregivers who have registered to use the Family Room.
Are my family and friends able to stay overnight in the Family Room?
Due to limited space, only primary caregivers are typically able to stay overnight in one of our sleep rooms or sleep pods. If an extended family member or friend is acting as a primary caregiver, then they are able to stay overnight in one of the sleep rooms or sleep pods. As our Family Room at SickKids is open 24 hours a day, we do our best to accommodate extended family members in our lounge area.
Is my child - the patient - able to visit the Family Room?
Because our Family Rooms are a clinical-free space and their purpose is for families to have a place to relax and recharge within the hospital, we ask that patients not use the Family Room.
How much does it cost to use the Family Rooms?
There is no cost to use any of our Family Rooms, thanks to donations to RMHC Toronto.
