They encourage people moved by the video to support other families just like them

It’s been an incredible two weeks since Coach Dad, Troy Hunt, received an early Father’s Day gift at Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) Toronto. Since the release of the video about his surprise reunion – courtesy of WestJet – with his daughter and members of the peewee hockey team he coaches in Newfoundland, his family has been overwhelmed by encouraging messages and gestures.

But perhaps the best development of all is that his son Darian’s doctors feel he may soon be strong enough to head back to Newfoundland, perhaps as early as next week. Darian is recovering well from the stem cell transplant he received from Troy on April 13, 2017 to treat his leukemia. The Hunt family will still have to stay in St. John’s for a while – close to doctors at the children’s hospital – but it may only be a matter of weeks before Darian gets the go ahead to return all the way home to Clarenville, N.L.

Says Troy, “I’d like to extend our deepest gratitude to WestJet and Ronald McDonald House Charities for the fantastic Father’s Day surprise they gave me last week. Having Darian’s friends and family and coaches come to Toronto and spend some time with us was truly remarkable. The support we have received since November (Darian’s diagnosis) has been tremendous. It is incredible how thoughtful and kind people really are.

“Even though, at this point in our journey, it seems like it’s a roller coaster, one thing that has really come to light is how well people stick together and how well people stand up and support strangers, in some cases, and in other cases, dear friends.

“So I just want to thank everyone. Thank you all.”
