Michael Higgins honoured with Order of Canada

It’s so gratifying to see good things happen to good people.
That was exactly our reaction to the recent news that long-time RMHC Toronto supporter, Michael Higgins, has been awarded the Order of Canada, the country’s highest honour. Presented by the governor general, the Order of Canada honours people whose service shapes our society, whose innovations ignite our imaginations and whose compassion unites our communities.
Michael, along with this brother, Paul Higgins Jr. were given the honour for their leadership in Canada's food industry, notably in developing and promoting sustainable business practices. Michael and Paul are co-chairs and members of the founding family of Mother Parkers Tea & Coffee Inc.
Michael also stands out for his generosity. He has been donating to RMHC Toronto consistently for the last 12 years. Most recently, he provided matching gifts for our holiday campaigns in 2017 and 2018, elevating our fundraising success.
“Michael is a tremendous Canadian. The Order of Canada is a fitting tribute to his decades of contributions improving the lives of so many in our country,” says Sally Ginter, CEO of RMHC Toronto. “We are delighted he and his brother, Paul, have been recognized with this honour.”
Michael joins another long-time supporter in receiving the Order of Canada. RMHC Toronto Founding Director, Mary Pat Armstrong, was named to the Order last year.
