Kelly Quinlan shares why RMHC Toronto is special to her
When I first got sick in Grade 8, I lost a lot of friends. They couldn’t relate to me anymore.
That’s why my family means everything to me. And that’s why I need them by my side right now.
You see, I have cystic fibrosis, and one year ago, the doctors told me I only had 12 months to live without a lung transplant. I was really scared, especially because it meant I had to move to Toronto from my home in St. John’s, Newfoundland to wait.
Thanks to your donations, my family found a home at Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) Toronto.
If it wasn’t for this place, I don’t know where we’d be. It’s our home away from home. The accommodations are beautiful and relaxing and there are so many activities to take part in. I also love that there is always someone for me to talk to. I feel secure here.
Your gifts keep my family together and close to me at the most difficult time in my life.
One of the things I love doing here is going to the kitchen or the lounge and watching the younger kids running, playing and laughing. Despite all they are going through – fighting cancer, heart surgeries and organ transplants – they find happiness here. Their happiness helps make me happy.
But seeing all of these families also reminds me how great the need is.
RMHC Toronto accommodates 81 families of seriously ill children. And my family is just one of those families.
That’s why your support is so critical.
Donate now to support families like Kelly's this thanksgiving.
There’s one more thing I have to tell you.
After waiting for many, many months, I DID
get my new lungs 10 weeks ago! And so far, the doctors tell me I’m doing pretty good. But, I’m not out of the woods yet. I still have several months of healing to go and that means more months at RMHC Toronto.
Thank you for giving me – and the other kids at RMHC Toronto – the best Thanksgiving ever with your donation. We need our families with us right now.
